Take Action to Support the NEH!
Dear Friends,
DOGE cancelled or rescinded hundreds of the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) grant contracts nationwide last night. Today we heard from our friends at Humanities Washington that Washington-based cultural organizations risk losing up to $10 million in funding. And that's just in our state alone. Cuts will impact libraries, museums, cultural centers, schools, and many more spaces where people gather to learn, connect, and grow together. Vital programs will be cut, jobs will be lost. NEH (via the American Historical Association) funded our Stories of Food series and helped us launch Community Roots in 2022. Window Seat also received NEH funds (via Humanities Washington) to support the InhaleExhale event at the Lord Mansion in the fall of 2019 and provided critical funding to launch our pilot project, Voices from the Harbor, in 2017. These are just a few local examples of the NEH's reach across the nation to build resilience in our communities. These cuts will run deep across the cultural sector of our communities. Please join us protecting this vital funding. Here are a few actions you can take:
- Call or message your U.S. Senators and Representatives and urge them to protect NEH and humanities councils.
- Forward this action alert email to your networks.
- Share this alert on social media tag interested folks or send directly to five people in your network and ask them to take action.
- Volunteer to write an op-ed in your local community newspaper or blog explaining the impact these federal dollars have in your state and community. We can help!
It only takes a few minutes and every voice helps to advocate for these important spaces of learning, reflection, and connection. With gratitude,Elaine & Meg
